July 1945, Pearl Harbor Navy Yard.  Note that movies were shown on the fantail nightly.  The 8 cylinders lying on their sides between the depth charge racks are part of the Smoke Generator.  This was the preferred method of making smoke screens. Smoke could be made using the boiler fires but it contaminated the tubes and necessitated more cleaning.  Radar made Smoke Screening  useless.  The generators were removed after the war.
